New BOSS Rep
New BOSS Rep?
To assign a new BOSS Representative, first ask your Soldiers if they want to be the BOSS Rep for the Unit. You want a Voluntary rep to ensure that the Representative will do the job to the best of their abilities. In certain circumstances a Representative will be appointed by the Units Chain of Command. If this is needed then pick a Soldier that will be dedicated to the duty he/she is assigned. The program will sell its self to the individual Soldier. Send your New Representative to the BOSS Office to Speak to the BOSS President about what’s expected of he/she
If you are a newly appointed Representative, below are some resources that will help you establish a BOSS Book and a BOSS representation at your Unit. Click on the Example Additional Duty Orders and submit them with your information to your Units S1 and have them put the Orders in the Commanders Box to get signed. If you are not on Orders then you are more likely to be put on a detail during a BOSS Meeting or event that you have been instructed to attend. This will cause conflict with you and your Chain of Command. Get the Orders as soon as possible. If you are a BDE or BN Rep then ensure that you get the BDE or BN Commander to sign off on your Additional Duty Orders. Once you get a Signed Copy of your Orders then get a copy to your next highest level, aka. Company to BN and BN to BDE and BDE to the BOSS President.
BOSS Books: The Unit BOSS Book is important because it is the continuity for a new Representative. In it a new rep should be able to pick up where the last Rep left off. They will know when the Meetings are, what’s expected of them, the BOSS Chain of Command and unit BOSS support Chain of Command, the AR’s/DA Circulars/SOP’s that reference to the BOSS Program. They will be able to answer any question pertaining to the BOSS Program, Quality of Life issues submitted in the past, when Unit level meeting take place, all the representatives in the lower units and the information put out in the last Installation Meeting.
BOSS Boards: Unit BOSS Boards are a vital source of information for Soldiers to learn when an event is taking place and where. At every BOSS Meeting the BOSS President will provide all the Reps with New flyers and by request can send you a color copy of the flyers. When picking a BOSS Board keep in mind the amount of traffic that will pass it. If your present Board is in a non trafficked area talk to the 1SG or CSM about moving it to a better location. If Soldiers can’t see they don’t know what it is. Keep your BOSS Boards up to date. If there are old flyers on the BOSS Board then the Soldiers that see it will think it is an up and coming event even though it has already passed. And last of all keep your BOSS Board clear of other items. If you can’t tell a Soldier all the information about an event or a flyer then you shouldn’t have it on your Board.
