FISHING

Update - Fishing reservoirs are currently iced over and ice fishing is not allowed.  Ice forms too thin and creates a safety concern.  Water generally becomes ice free mid March.

In order to fish on Fort Carson, you must possess a Fort Carson Recreation Permit purchased from the Outdoor Recreation Center, Bldg 2429, on the corner of Specker and Wetzel Ave.  A Colorado State fishing license is not required while on Fort Carson. However, all other state fishing regulations are enforced, to include 2 rod limit and daily bag limits.  Click here for state fishing regulations

http://wildlife.state.co.us/RulesRegs/Regulations/Pages/Regulations.aspx Fishing is not allowed at Piñon Canyon.

Help us keep the reservoirs clean by recycling and using the trash dumpsters provided.

RESERVOIRS

A - Womack Reservoir is 5.6 surface acres, averages 7' deep and is primarily fed by Little Fountain Creek.  Womack has good ADA access and a dock with guard rails.  The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout, and holds a self-sustaining population of bluegill.  Water is very low and has not been stocked since June 2011.

B - Small Bird can go dry during drought years and has not been stocked as a result.

C – Large Bird dam has been breached and no longer holds water.

D – Gale goes dry almost every year and has not been stocked as a result.

E - Townsend Reservoir is about 10 surface acres and about 42' deep near the dam on the Northeast side.  It is spring fed and has held water year round, despite the drought. The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout, but also holds a self-sustaining population of bluegill and large catfish.

F - Haymes Reservoir is 8 surface acres, and 22' deep when full.  Haymes is regularly stocked with rainbows, and has a self-sustaining population of bass, crappie and bluegills.

G - Northside Reservoir has been repaired, and is currently being filled with available precipitation.

H – Wildlife Demo Area has two small ponds that are not stocked but has a self-sustaining population of crappie and bass.
