Cañon City is located at the mouth of the Royal Gorge in the foothills of the Rockies, 45 miles south of Colorado Springs.  The Cañon City metropolitan area has a total population in excess of 29,000 with over 47,000 Fremont County residents.  The Cañon City School District offers a teacher to student ration of 1-23.  The district expanded one of the high schools and renovated several of the elementary buildings with the passage of the recent bond issue.  Special program schools serve preschool and elementary aged youth.  Pueblo Community College’s Fremont Campus is housed in a new facility with state of the art technology, small classes, and strong academic programs.
