Fort Carson Adventure Program FAQs
1. Where can I sign up?
You can sign up in person or on the phone through the Information Ticketing and Registration (ITR) office which is located at Building 2429 Specker Ave. The phone number for ITR is (719) 526-5366.
2. Do I need my own gear?
Gear is provided on some but not all courses. Information on what to bring and what APE provides can be found on the gear lists, which are on the APE website beneath the course descriptions.
3. Where can I rent gear form?
Gear can be rented from the Equipment Checkout Center (ECC) located at Bldg 2429 Specker Ave. For more information regarding equipment rentals, go to http://mwrfortcarson.com/equipment-checkout-center.php or call (719) 526-1993
4. Can I drive myself?
No. Please contact us if you have special circumstances.
5. Can I bring my non-military friend?
Yes, you can sponsor up to four non-military friends provided that you are also present on the trip.
6. Can I bring my pet?
No.
7. Where do we meet for trips?
We meet at the Outdoor Recreation Complex at building 2429 Specker Avenue. For departure times, please check in the course description on the APE website or call (719) 526-5176.
8. How physically fit/knowledgeable do I need to be to participate?
Most of our trips are designed to be beginner-friendly. Usually the courses that are labeled as “intermediate” require previous experience and more endurance than the beginner courses. Please call us if you have any questions regarding the difficulty of the course.
9. Can I organize a custom trip? How many people do I need?
Yes, you can organize custom trips. The cost and minimum number is dependent on the type of trip. Please call us for more information.
10. What do I need to do to use the indoor climbing wall? What if I already know how to belay?
If you are new to climbing, take our “On Belay” course which is held every Thursday evening from 1730-2030. The course covers knots, belay skills and some climbing technique and certifies you to climb at the APE climbing wall for a full year. The cost of the course and the one year certification is only $20. If you already know the knots and how to belay, simply sign up for the “On Belay” class and take our belay test.
11. What are the age requirements to belay?
The minimum age for belaying on our indoor climbing wall is 14 years old. However, children ages 10 and older are encouraged to take the course so that they can learn how everything works.
12. Where are you located?
If you do not have a decal on your vehicle you will need to enter post from gate 1. From I-25 take the Academy exit, go west to 115 and go south to gate one. You will need current proof of insurance, registration and drivers license to get on post. Once on Post you will go straight through the roundabout to the first stop light take a right at Chiles. Go to the next stop light and take a left on Prussman. Second stop light is Specker, go right. You will see the ODR on the right hand side of the street.
