It's all about fun, it goes without saying. Our larger goal is to teach the skills necessary to make good decisions for yourself, so you can enjoy the wilderness for a lifetime.
Our programs are structured with the highest regard for safety, while offering quality instruction and preservation of the environment and striving to stay number one in the jungle of customer service.

Learn all about the equipment, basic paddling skills and the kayak roll, all in the comfort of the heated indoor pool. All equipment is supplied.
Dates: Sep. 4, 12
Cost: $20 (1st time), $15 (repeat)
Time: 5-8:30 p.m.
Start out with a pool session then head out on a class I-II section of river working on all your new skills. We will camp Saturday evening on the river. Sunday we will move onto class II-III whitewater working on intermediate skills.

Learn to Ski or Snowboard Trip
Have you always wanted to learn how to ski or snowboard? Join us for a day up at Monarch Ski area and get a half day lesson from a professional instructor. Your lesson will be in the morning then you can work on your new skills all afternoon. Getting a lesson from a professional rather than your “buddy” will increase your learning curve, making the snowy terrain an enjoyable experience.
Dates: Any Trip to Monarch Ski Area

Cost: $62 for a lesson (ages 7 & up)
Ski & Snowboard Tuning Workshop
Learn how to wax and tune your board(s) in this 2 hour evening workshop. Bring your equipment and leave ready to hit the slopes. We’ll cover waxing, basic tuning and repair with our expert instructors.

Crested Butte Ski & Snowboard Weekend Trip
Join us on this amazing trip and find out why people come from all over the world to ski CB. Trip includes: 2 nights lodging at the Grand Lodge, 2 days skiing & snowboarding at CB, 2 breakfasts, and round trip transportation. We will leave Friday night and be back late Sunday.
Join us and see why people normally pay $85 dollars a day just to ski here.

Wolf Creek Ski & Snowboard Weekend Trip
Join us for a trip that will exhilarate the body and relax the soul. Enjoy two of the best loved Ski Areas in CO. Relax in the hot springs of Pagosa. Cost includes transportation, lodging, two nights at the hot springs, two breakfasts.

Experience an “age old” style of traveling in a winter environment. Join us for a day in the Rocky Mountains while learning the basics of cross-country skiing. Our instructors will provide you with transportation and instruction.

Snowshoeing allows you to experience the solitude and serenity of our Colorado wilderness. You will learn tips and techniques for traveling on snowshoes efficiently and have many opportunities for those “Kodak Moments”.

Time: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Cost: $30 with snowshoe rental or $25 w/o snowshoe rental
Full Moon Snowshoe(NEW)
Snowshoeing allows you to experience the solitude and serenity of our Colorado wilderness under a full moon. Trip will include Hot Cocoa. We will hike if there is no snow.

Avalanche Awareness Class
With the increased popularity of winter activities such as ice climbing, winter mountaineering, and backcountry skiing/snowboarding many more people are traveling into avalanche terrain. Nearly all avalanches that involve people are triggered by the victims themselves or a member of their party. Attending this class will give you an introduction on the following topics: what is avalanche terrain, trip planning, reducing your risks in the field, rescue, avalanche equipment, and your next steps.
Time: 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. @ City Rock Climbing Gym, Downtown Colorado Springs.
Backcountry Skiing & Snowboarding
(Mandatory Prerequisite: Avalanche Awareness Class)
So you want to ride in powder and you’re sick of the crowds and lift lines at resorts? Come learn the skills necessary to travel in the backcountry while experiencing the solitude and freedom of the hills, which makes backcountry skiing & snowboarding so unique. Spend the day out on the snow!

Lost Wonder Hut Ski or Snowshoe Trip
Imagine a winter wonderland right at your front door. Join us for a ski hut trip in the Rockies. Ski 4 miles to this amazing hut, experience excellent skiing, great food, warm fire and the company of others.
Time: Sat. 6:00 a.m. – Sun. 6:00 p.m.
This tour has it all; trail riding, road riding and plenty of free ride time. Visit three historic gold and silver mines and two operating quarries. Lunch included. Ages 15 & older can ride solo, ages 5 & older to ride as a passenger.

Mountaineering Weekend Trip
(Recommended Prerequisite: On Belay)
Learn basic mountaineering skills such as self-arrest, use of pickets and flukes, and traveling over snow with crampons and an ice axe. The goal of the course is to put these skills to the test on an ascent of a moderately steep snow or mixed route. Come enjoy the freedom of the hills! Price includes all technical equipment, 2 lunches, & 1 breakfast.

How to Mountain Bike
Make the transition from just riding around to mountain biking. Come join our instructors one evening after work. Learn to ride over obstacles, climb, descend, and turning in the rough stuff. This course starts easy and moves through tougher terrain.

Bicycle Maintenance Class
No matter what kind of bike you have, it needs to be maintained. You’ll learn how to change tires, fix flats, adjust brakes, set the derailleur, and true wheels. We have all the tools you need, Just bring your bike.

Pike’s Peak Downhill
Check out the best views atop Pike’s Peak, then glide on your bike down the Pike’s Peak Highway with our instructors. This trip includes a ride to the top of the mountain, and van support the whole ride down, bike rental, and instruction.
SPECIALITY PROGRAMS (NEW)
SnoFest features more than world-class skiing and snowboarding! This year there will be fabulous lodging, parties, giveaways, races, a hilarious cardboard derby, sleigh rides, tubing, ice-skating, non-skier excursions and more. You won't want to miss this spectacular event hosted by the Front Range Military Bases at Keystone Resort.

Cripple Creek Casinos & Ice Castles
Chose to gamble or check out the annual Ice Festival. 160 pound blocks of ice are transformed into this year's theme of Mythological Wonderland. The Ice Maze, Ice Slide, and interactive ice sculptures make this event perfect for photo opportunities and hours of fun.

Climbing Wall Orientation
Intro to knots, belay techniques and climbing communication. Certify to climb the indoor climbing wall at the Outdoor Rec. Center & Iron Horse PFC.

Outdoor Rock Instruction
(Recommended Prerequisite: Climbing Wall Orientation)
Join the APE guides into the realm of the vertical world! You will be introduced to basic body movements and route selection and safety around the rocks.

New Mexico Climbing Weekend (Recommended Prerequisite: Climbing Wall Orientation)
Discover the climbing area of Sugarite Canyon. This area has great single pitch climbing and beautiful scenic camping.

Beginner Ice Climbing
(Recommended Prerequisite: Climbing Wall Instruction)
Climbing a frozen waterfall is a truly unique and rewarding experience that will inspire and entice as you move upward while balancing on crampons and ice tools. Throughout the day you will learn basic movements and techniques of climbing ice.
Dates: Dec. 12; Jan. 3, 24; February 7, 28; March 1
Time: 7:30 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.
Join us at Lincoln Falls on a Friday to avoid the crowds! This amazing frozen waterfall is at the base of Mount Lincoln near Hoosier Pass. Come test your skills on vertical single and multi-pitch ice curtains.

Ouray Ice Climbing Weekend
(Recommended Prerequisite: Beginner Ice Climbing)
This class is located in the Uncompahgre Gorge in Ouray, Colorado. The Ouray Ice Park was the world’s first park devoted exclusively to the sport of ice climbing. Join the APE guides for a weekend of world-class ice climbing, while staying in the town of Ouray digesting all this unique mountain town has to offer. A trip you won’t soon forget!

Lake City Ice Climbing Weekend
(Recommended Prerequisite: Beginner Ice Climbing)
If you are tired of following other people’s trails and you don’t mind not seeing another climbing party all day, then this is the spot for you. Buried in the heart of the San Juan Mountains there you will find Lake City. This town is one of the most quaint, beautiful and adventurous areas in the state. The weekend will consist of wild ice climbs and warm nights by the fire. Spend the weekend in the true “wild west” with APE!

Halloween Trick or Treat Climb: Ages 5 to 12
